What is mineral wool

Mineral wool is a general term for cotton-like fibers made from molten rock, slag (industrial waste), glass, metal oxide, or ceramic soil.  Common mineral wool includes slag wool, rock wool, glass wool, aluminum silicate refractory fiber and other varieties.

What is mineral wool

Mineral wool specification name is slag wool.  Slag wool is an inorganic fiber made by remelting and fibrosis of industrial waste slag such as blast furnace slag, phosphorus slag and fly ash.  After processing, it can be made into board, pipe, felt, tape, paper and other products, which can be used for insulation, fire prevention, sound absorption and earthquake resistance of construction and industrial equipment, pipes and kilns.

What is rock wool?

Rock wool is a kind of mineral wool.  Rock wool is a fluffy short fine fiber cotton made of basalt, diabase, dolomite, iron ore, bauxite and other natural rocks.  After processing, it can be made into board, pipe, felt, tape, paper and other products, which can be used for insulation, fire prevention, sound absorption and earthquake resistance of construction and industrial equipment, pipes and kilns.

What's the difference between mineral wool and rock wool?

First, similarities

1, high temperature melting, centrifugal manufacturing of fiber insulation products;

2. The same product standard GB/T 11835-2007 for rock wool, slag wool and its thermal insulation products shall be implemented in the industrial field.

3, the implementation of the same product standards in the construction field (except external wall insulation) "building rock wool, slag wool insulation products" GB/T19686-2005.

2. Differences

1, different raw materials: rock wool is mainly made of basalt (or diabase) and other natural ores;  Mineral wool is mainly made of industrial waste slag such as blast furnace slag.

2, rock wool fiber mechanical properties, temperature resistance and chemical stability is better than mineral wool;

3. Mineral wool contains more alkaline compounds, and its volume stability and water resistance are worse than rock wool in wet environment.

4, mineral wool acidity coefficient is lower than rock wool, weather resistance and service life is worse than rock wool;

5, the use temperature of mineral wool fiber is lower than rock wool, volume stability is worse than rock wool at high temperature.
